Sony mylo 2 firmware version 1.100 adds WMV and SHOUTcast support

Sony mylo 2

Sony’s do-everything-except-for-make-calls mylo has been updated to firmware version 1.100, and is now available at Sony’s support site as a 61MB download. Because you ran out of things to do with your mylo about, say, ten minutes after unboxing it, rejoice — the update adds WMV file support, SHOUTcast widget support (the widget is a separate download), a “Game” item on the HOME menu for easier access to all those games you downloaded to the COM-2 unit, and, of course, improved “system stability”.

Video: Sony’s TG1 / TG3E — world’s smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, previewed

Whether you call it the HDR-TG3E (as it’s known in Europe) or the HDR-TG1 (as it’s been dubbed everywhere else), it’s still the world’s smallest 1080i camcorder. Tracy and Matt got their hands on an early unit for all your unboxing and first-impression pleasures. They’re already “very impressed” with the “fabulous” image quality when viewed on their 50-inch plasma. Don’t let the Queen’s English and SCART adapter fool you, this is pretty much exactly what you can expect to land Stateside next month. Click through for the moving pictures then hit up that read link for a more detailed analysis — looks like Sony’s got themselves a winner.

Alpine’s head unit supports iPods, DivX playback and everything else

When you call your product a Mobile Multimedia Solution it had better offer up a pretty robust set of connectivity options; especially when it costs $1,100. In that manner, Alpine’s new WXGA touch-screen IVA-W505 doesn’t disappoint. The 7-inch DVD/CD/MP3/AAC/WMA/DivX AV head unit offers Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and touch control over all your in-car digital media sources. The list includes HD/Sat radio (with iTunes tagging) and MP3/WMA players like iPods and USB sticks. The double-DIN unit is IMPRINT, acoustic-correction ready and serves as a dock for Alpine’s PMD-B200 portable GPS unit. Sweet. Available now through authorized dealers in North America.

Zune Guy’s name change endeavor is back on

We can’t say we’d follow in this guy’s footsteps for any amount of money, but boy, does it make for fantastic drama. Shortly after the famed Zune Guy (you know, that cat with a trio of Zune-inspired tattoos?) decided to legally change his name to “Microsoft Zune,” the plan was put on hiatus after hearing that it cost a whopping $500 to get a name swap. After getting curious, investigating and discovering that he only needed $150 to have it done, he put the mission squarely back on the front burner. Unfortunately, there still stands a chance of the aforesaid name being denied, so he’s posted up a poll in order to let the general public give him a list of backups. Personally, we’re feelin’ McZunin.

[Thanks, Brian]

D Cube’s D9 PMP packs DMB tuner, kickstand

D Cube’s been safely off the radar for quite some time, but its D9 includes just enough goodness to warrant a second glance. For starters, you’ll find a 3.5-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, support for MP3, OGG, WMA, AVI, WMV and JPEG file formats and a T-DMB TV tuner to keep things interesting. In case the 2GB / 4GB of internal storage proves too tiny for your bloated collection of acid rock, you can fit a few more tracks on there thanks to the microSD / SDHC expansion slot. Not one to stay parked in the palms, the D9 also includes a kickstand and a pair of lackluster speakers for watching extended clips. Probably a good bet for just ₩128,000 ($131) — ’tis a shame it won’t ever make its way Stateside.

Video: Sony’s BDZ-A70 Blu-ray recorder with 1-touch transfer to Walkmans, cellphones, and PSPs

Now we’re talking Sony, this is the type of integration we expect to see on the heels of your promise to cash in on portable video after losing the audio battle to Apple. As a Blu-ray recorder, the BDZ-A70 features all the in/outs you’d expect and recording to a 320GB (the new BDZ-T90 offers 500GB) disk or dual-layer BD-RE media from a host of analog and digital tuners. Great, but what’s most notable here is the new one-touch video transfer to Sony’s PSP, select mobile phones including NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA 905i, and video Walkmans like Sony’s new NW-A820. As you may have noticed, those last two are Japanese products. Appropriate given the Japan-only launch of these players in April for about ¥170,000 ($1,658). Still, we’re pretty sure they’ll go global soon enough. Quickie demonstration video after the break.
